Mercury, the planet closest to the Sun, will take a few days to catch up to Venus and become the brightest object in the sky in the evening. Ironically, as Mercury is not visible in the evening sky, it will be one of the last planets to become an evening star. As one of the inner planets, Mercury is very close to the Sun at a distance of about 39 million miles (63 million km).

Mercury is the most commonly known planet and one of the brightest. It is also known as the messenger, as this is the time of the year when Mercury acts as the messenger of the gods. Sidereal phases of planets and synodic cycles were very important concepts in traditional astrology. Once upon a time, our ancestors got all their information from the most important source: the sky itself.

Modern astrology has somewhat forgotten planetary cycles, but fortunately we are gradually bringing this concept back and giving it the meaning it deserves. The star type Venus – Venus morning star and Venus evening star – is by far the most popular theme, but ALL planets have morning and evening phases. Whenever a planet is in conjunction with the sun, it moves from the morning star to the evening star or vice versa.

Take the mercury

  2. When Mercury is direct, it is so fast that it overtakes the sun and goes from a morning star to an evening star.

Mercury can only be found in the sign before the Sun, in the same sign as the Sun, or in the sign after the Sun. So if you are a Virgo Sun, your Mercury can only be in Leo, Virgo or Libra. If you are a Virgo Sun and your Mercury is in Leo, then you are a Mercury morning star because Leo precedes Virgo. If your Mercury is in Libra, you are the evening star of Mercury, as Libra follows Virgo. If your Mercury is in the same sign as the Sun, look at the degree. If Mercury is one degree earlier than the sun, it is the morning star. If it’s in a more advanced stage, it’s an evening star. What does it mean for a planet to be a morning star or an evening star? Mercury Morning Star has similar qualities to Gemini and Mercury Evening Star has similar qualities to Virgo. Morning Star Mercury is more independent, curious, innovative, but may lack experience. The evening star of Mercury is more organized, more fluid, more experienced, but of course it may lack the enthusiasm and curiosity of the morning star of Mercury.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mercury an evening star?

Morning starts and ends with the Sun, but the rest of the day is filled with the planets. The Sun is the center from which everything orbits, but the planets also have their own individual orbits, which they describe as “paths”. The Sun and Mercury follow the same path for a year, but they each rise and set in their own place. Mercury is an evening star, as you know, but why did it become an evening star? A new research study suggests that it has been a star for years and years and years.

Why Mercury is known as the Evening Star?

Mercury is one of the most difficult planets to observe because at this time in our solar year it is one of the last to rise in the east before setting in the west. For a long time it was thought to be too faint to be seen, but a series of observations in the 18th century proved that it was indeed the second brightest planet in the sky. Mercury, the innermost planet in our solar system and the closest to the Sun, is known as the “Evening Star” because the Sun lights it up like it is the Sun.

What is the evening star?

The evening star is the fifth brightest object in the sky after the Sun, Venus, the Moon and Saturn. It is visible near the eastern horizon of both hemispheres, near the time of sunset. In the northern hemisphere, it rises around sunset and ends ascending before sunrise. In the southern hemisphere, it sets around sunrise and ends descending before sunset. Although Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, it only takes about 70 days to travel from Mercury to the Sun and back, which means Mercury is sometimes full and can barely be seen at night. It can be hard to find its position, so you need to be patient. But, when you do find it, it will be very bright, which means it will be an excellent guide to find your way home. The evening star will guide you home.
